Many websites and social media posts claim to show police reports, paperwork, or screenshots that name someone as an informant. A document can look official and still be altered, cropped, incomplete, misread, or completely fabricated.

Reports may also describe an investigation in a way that hides the real source of information. That is why the stronger move is to compare original records, dates, charges, and sentencing outcomes before accepting or sharing a claim.

  • Screenshots can be fake. A cropped image or repost is not the same thing as an original record from a verified source.
  • Reports can be reconstructed. Police summaries may describe the visible investigation while omitting the informant, source, or cooperation that led to it.
  • Outcomes matter. Dropped charges, reduced counts, and unusually light sentences can be important clues when compared with the full case history.
